Health Insurance Card
Detailed information about health insurance and healthcare services can be found on the SWC website.
The HR Department of the Faculty fulfils the employer’s obligation to register the employee with the relevant health insurance company within 8 days of the start of employment.
If it is their first registration in Czech Republic, the insurance company then assigns the employee a personal insurance identification number, which is added to the employee’s personal record in the university information systems. If needed, the employee can find their assigned number here.
Within a few days or weeks, the health insurance card is delivered to the Faculty. The HR Department forwards the card to the secretariat of the respective department, where the employee can collect it.
Presenting this card at a medical facility ensures full access to public healthcare services.
Sick Leave
If an employee becomes ill, they must immediately inform their workplace (either the departmental secretary/administrator or their supervisor).
The attending physician issues an electronic certificate of temporary incapacity for work, which serves as the official document required for the payment of sickness benefits.
These benefits are a partial compensation for lost wages during illness and are funded through the social security system.
When the illness ends, the employee must visit the same physician to officially terminate the sick leave.
The doctor then submits another electronic notice confirming the end of the sick leave.
Simply returning to work is not sufficient — the employer cannot end the sick leave or resume salary payments without this official medical confirmation.
